@Mike Gregory - Thanks for stopping by the blog! I definitely want to respond to you. First, just generally on the topic of coffee roasters/coffeehouses - I fully believe that a well-rounded coffee experience means that you have to visit more than just one brand! I don't exclusively go to Starbucks, because even I need a change of pace now and then! I would be surprised at any customer that only wants to visit ONE coffeehouse.

As to Trabant: The Trabant location in Pioneer Square isn't *too* far from where I work - definitely walkable - and once in a while I have stopped in there because I know they have a Clover, and yes, I too like a change of pace with coffee now and then! Though the coffee is always a noticeably light roast to me (and what my palate is used to), I've been impressed every time. The customer service there has been fine too!

I remember one time I had lunch with colleagues at the Thai restaurant across the street from Trabant in Pioneer Square, and afterwords my colleagues continued back to the office, and I stopped in for coffee. I got a Clover cup of coffee, and engaged the barista - who seemed knowledgeable about coffee - in a conversation about the coffee and the Clover. I left. I walked one full block away, and suddenly it hit me that I had forgotten to pay! I was so absorbed in conversation!!! I turned around and ran back in (as best I could with a paper cup in hand) apologized profusely to the barista, who just laughed, and gave her a $10 and told her to keep the change. I was so embarrassed. You wouldn't believe it. She was great about it. Trabant in Pioneer Square is definitely on my list (a very short list) of a few coffee places outside of Starbucks that get two thumbs up and are highly recommended.

I have no comment about the Trabant in the University Dist. because I haven't been there.

There is a Clover at a coffeehouse in Ballard, (Aster Coffee) serving Intelligentsia coffee. It seemed like a pretty good experience too, though I need to go back.

Just on the topic of coffee-roasters generally: In Seattle there is always a ton of buzz about Stumptown. They are well-loved here. I've been to two of their cuppings and each time walked away thinking they grossly under-roast beans. From that experience I've started telling people, "I want my tea to taste like tea, and my coffee to taste like coffee!!" No overlap! Hahaha! Nor have I ever had some overwhelming legendary customer service experience at a Stumptown. I suspect many will jump down my throat at this, but Stumptown is not for me.

Trabant, though, gets two thumbs up.

Don't forget there are three coffee bars in Seattle still operating Clover coffee brewers from before the Starbucks acquisition. Trabant Coffee features single-cup Clover brewing at our University District and Pioneer Square locations.

Did you know (you probably did) that the 1st Starbucks Clover was in the Wedgewood store? That one was shortly thereafter taken out and moved to 6th & Union which I think began selling coffee just shortly before Queen Anne. Following that I believe was Madison Park.

I just though that was interesting. Wedgewood, really? It would have been cool to have a cup of coffee there when it was the only Starbucks Clover.

Your west coast Starbucks seem to be spoiled. Sometimes I wish I had half your experiences with the ones on this side of the Mississippi.

Here I am. I always find your Clover experiences very interesting. If you can find any Starbucks (RED) you should try that through the Clover. Its quite amazing. I think the Clover and VIA, are two of the most innovative products Starbucks has developed within recent memory.
