Hey Nathan the new rewards program is better--better for Starbucks that is because instead of giving away 10% to gold card members all they have to do is give people a drink that they actually pay for after they accumulate 15 stars and get them to believe it's actually free. And you remember how many people were clammoring for punch cards. A lot of people will just trip over themselves to accumulate their 15 stars to earn their "free" drink and they know it's free because Starbucks says it's free. Of course people who aren't already gold card holders already have to acumulate 45 (that's right 45; 30 just to get to the gold level then 15 more) to earn their first "free" drink. Talk about insulting people's intelligence!

To me, the part about the new rewards that upsets me the most is how they are insulting our intelligence. We all know it's not as good of a deal, yet they insist that it is better. That part frustrates me more than the actual change.

I have no "hostility" about the new rewards program. I do think Starbucks should not have discontinued the gold card and it's discount after only one year. It was a good program and encouraged people to buy more than they normally would have. What I resent is Starbucks coming out with a glorified punch card after telling us that they were not going to come out with a gimmicky (your word not mine) punch card and feeding us the BS that it's "an enhancement".

Hi Steve (or anyone) - I get confused where all this hostility of yours about the new program comes from. I have a long list of complaints about the new program, and I have no doubt it is a FAR worse deal for me, and in fact for most customers except "treat-seekers". Despite all that, it doesn't test my loyalty and doesn't really change my relationship with Starbucks. The Gold Card only existed for one year! It's not like a long-standing tradition got tossed away with a sneeze.

Compare, if you will, the Gold Card program to brewed coffee regime: A 30 year + tradition of a showcasing a variety of high quality coffees tossed out with little debate.

The Gold Card was a free perk (you got yours free for being a part of MSI & I was sent mine free very early as one of the early 'best customers' lol) - The corporation wasn't under any obligation to keep it going. And everyone who paid for the Gold Card will still get a full year out of it. We just have to accept it was a one year experiment in terror that for reasons unbeknown to us, have been discontinued.

Hey Nathan I do post on MSI sometimes but not as much because I am really disgusted with Starbucks and MSI. We waste our time giving our opinions about various topics like how we like the gold card and no gimmmicky punch cards and the moderators all give us false hope that they are listening to us so they talk out of both side of their mouths like politicians and they do what they want to and scrap the gold card with the discount and come up with a gimmicky glorified punch card and tell us it's an "enhacement".

Melody... You should come up with a thanksgiving blog that you can just re post year after year.
Do you have a blog on grounds for the garden? I really enjoyed the re-cycling information.
