A regular reader of this blog sent me some photos he took featuring a new Starbucks in Kyoto Research Park in Japan. I think this is a brand new Starbucks, and (I think, I could be wrong!) the second LEED-Registered Starbucks in Japan. I had a previous blog post about the first LEED-Registered Starbucks in Japan here:
Starbucks opens first LEED store in Japan
The pictures are fun to look at so I thought I would share them here. A big thank you to Nobrice for sending them to me, and very generously allowing me to publish them on my blog. He is the copyright holder for these photos. One thing that made me laugh … priceless … is the photo showing the chalkboard art in the store. It says “Stores are gifts“. I kind of think that Starbucks stores are gifts, but I think someone is missing an “i”.
Next time I’ll have to beg Nobrice a little to get me some more interior photos of the store. I am sure it is beautiful inside and I would love to hear from anyone who has more information on this store. By the way, here is the link to the official Starbucks Japan website:
Enjoy the photos!

Woow! Wooow! Wooooow!!!!!
This gigantic beautiful big store just blows me away…I am totally all excited! 😀 😀
This is another fantastic example for Starbucks’ great success in Japan. Stunning design and architecture. Modern…but timeless. Fits perfectly to the company’s motif and philosophies.
Great kind of little tables outside the store. The wonderful tree in front of the store perfectly combines the atmosphere together with this lovely store exterior. I could sit there for hours and enjoy a good cup while being dreamy…HaHa.
I really HAVE TO travel to Japan…those stores are real treasures that have to be discovered by me.
What a gorgeous store. The architecture reminds me of a museum in ft worth. Looks like a good place to relax in.
As others have said, SB is really pulling out all the stuff to make their international stores shine! Really wish they would pay more attention when remodeling the USA stores. Thanks for the pics Melody and Nobrice.
wow, too! great pics and so interesting to see!
I agree with Purple1: I wish they’d spend more time and/or focus on the U.S. stores……so many need real help. Also, it always strikes me when I see a drive-thru Sbux….I rarely ever see them around here (Chicago area) altho I know we have them. I can’t ever imagine getting used to seeing that in a Sbux (the drive thru idea).
Thanx for sharing pics and part of the world most of us will never see!
Thank you Melody. You can use the photos of other stores of Kyoto I sent.
The opening of “1st & Pike” was good omen of the innovation of Starbucks, the leadership for the world Starbucks stores. I think so.
This store is a remodeled store in this June. Starbucks coffee Japan Ltd did not do the announcement about this store. I do not know the reason.
Also I’m sorry for interior photos. The rule of Starbucks JPN is too severe. The customers cannot do photography in the shop, it’s prohibited in each stores. It’s like a immigration control. Starbucks JPN may do X-ray check to visitors. LOL.
I asked this store partner about photography. “The photography is impossible”. She said. I asked a manager also. “Do not photograph customers in the store. Do not photograph employees. Do not do commercial use of the photos”. He said. I agreed to that then he gave me photography permission. I respect a rule of Starbucks coffee Japan Ltd, but Starbucks JPN should be friendlier. I love that sentence. “You and Starbucks. It’s bigger than coffee”.
I was hospitalized last month to fight against large bowel cancer. And I who left the hospital tried this Kyoto visit immediately. I always had pains, but I enjoyed even it. My girlfriend died by collagen disease 3 years ago. So, she cannot visit Starbucks anymore, but I can still visit more Starbucks. Also this Kyoto visit was a rehearsal of the coming Seattle visit for me. The performance begins soon at rainy city Seattle.
Very nice store. Arigato!
@Nobrice – Thank you again for the pictures. Is this store a drive thru? The pictures made it look like it is. It is a little strange that Starbucks Japan has such a strict no photo policy indoors when it is totally clear that Starbucks in the US has no such strict rule. I understand Japan operates as a separate business, and they can create their own rules. They are not bound by Seattle rules! And I still think your stores get some amazing merchandise! Do you get the Starbucks journals that are internationally popular?
I was also amazed at your blue skies as I looked at the photos. Today the sky is literally gray in Seattle. I guess you took those at the end of Fall and the weather was nice that day. When did the store reopen as a LEED registered store?
My challenge in using any photos that are sent to me is that I need to be able to present them in such a way that I know what I am looking at, and have descriptive information to be able to write a few accurate paragraphs about what is going on in the pictures. Pictures absent context are a struggle for me.
Nob thank you again! See you soon! You should come to Seattle for the annual meeting! 🙂
Thank you, Nobrice, for the photos! Sorry to hear about your health concerns, hope you are all better now.
The store is beautiful. It’s always fun to see international Starbucks!
@Nobrice Thank you for sharing the pictures. When will you be in seattle again?
I am glad there are more and more LEED stores around
I am also surprised by how big this store is
Great store! Very cool looking…and Nobrice I am so glad to hear that you are alright! 🙂 although interior photos would be great, its not worth breaking any rules! 🙂
@SbuxMel
Oh, I understood that. Probably your e-mail security kicked my e-mail, explanation of Kyoto stores. Haha.
Yes, the store has drive-through and two Mastrena. The reopen was this June.
“We want clover machine”. The store manager said. He may read this blog.
About Starbucks next to this store.
Oops, should not I explain it here? OK, I meet you a few days later and give those explanations. There are good cafes in Seattle to have such a conversation. You may give me coffee in the famous cafe. Thank you. LOL
@Nob – Wait. Was there more than one email? I saw an email with 19 links, going to pages in Japanese and I did feel overwhelmed and confused. I am sorry!
And you have really bounced back from your health problems just one month ago. You are a superstar healer! When exactly are you in Seattle? I want to catch up!
I hope there will be many more to follow!
Hi Erica! Welcome to the blog! Actually there were a few more store pictures to go with this blog article, but I never want to have an overwhelming amount of photos, so I just pic out some faves to upload. I have thought about going back and editing this to add a few more pics, so that might still happen!
